Achateny House

Originally the “big house” for Achateny Farm, the first thing you might notice on your stay here is the view to the north, across the sea to the islands of Skye, Eigg, Rum and Muck. The garden is a magnet for songbirds (and also a pair of sparrowhawks which regularly create havoc overhead). To the west, deer graze on the open ground overnight, returning to the hills in the early morning.

Achateny Beach is just a couple of minutes walk away down a rough private track. This ‘deserted’ beach is actually alive with wildlife; otters are often seen fishing among the reefs here, sharing the space with a varied avian population. There is a large tidal range, and at low tide huge areas of white sand are uncovered and fascinating rock pools form among the rocky outcrops. The adjoining, more sheltered Kilmory Beach is just as lovely. Both beaches are protected by reefs which mean the waves here are more gentle than further west on the Peninsula.

There is a large enclosed garden where children and dogs (and adults) can safely play. Indoors there is a conservatory, dining room, large lounge (with television and DVD player) and large kitchen-dining room. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, both en-suite, and two twin bedrooms. The third bathroom has a jacuzzi bath and sauna. There is an additional toilet on the landing. The kitchen has cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine and dishwasher.

Further Information

All of our properties are supplied by private water sources, burns or springs. The water is tested by the local authority environmental health department each year and is perfectly safe to drink and to use for washing or cooking. Guests who may prefer the taste of processed water rather than the real thing are welcome to bring their own supplies of drinking water.

On occasion, this cottage is available to book for 3 days at a time. Please phone our estate office to check availability.
